How to overlap a shot with another
I wanted to find a part of the song where the lyric
says ‘oh’ and then overlap an extreme close up shot of our artists mouth say ‘oh’
over another shot. I managed to do this well and here’s how I did it…
Once this part was done I had to import the clip that I wanted to use. This clip is an extreme close up of our artist singing. I dragged the clip onto 'Video 4' because if I dragged it onto one of the lower levels, the clips that are already there would get removed.
Then I had to watch the new extreme close up clip in order to find the part where she lip sings 'oh'. I cropped it to the correct time length and then dragged it down close to where the rest of the footage is. As I dragged it down to 'Video 2' I made sure to match it up to where the red line is.
Now that I have set the clip to the correct part of the video this is where the overlapping commences. The yellow line on each of the shots represents the opacity levels. I had to drag the opacity level down, by dragging the yellow line down, on the extreme close up clip. As you can see this fades the image slightly, so you can see the shot behind aswell as the new shot.
I think it looks really effective as the shot comes up quickly so it doesn't take too much attention away from the other shot but it adds something fun and exciting. My inspiration for doing this kind of shot is from Rihanna's 'Rude Boy' video as she uses many extreme close ups of her lips in that video. I think it makes the video look cool as there is always something to look at. Due to this going well, we thought it would be a good idea to do this to some other shots too. Here they are...
Here we can see another overlapping shot of our artist singing over a location shot. We only overlapped shots where the behind image is a location shot. If there was a shot of our artist already singing it would look too much if there was an overlapping shot of her singing. I feel that these overlapping shots work really well as they add something extra.
We have also played with the opacity levels at the end of the video too. However we have also added a few transitions such as 'additive dissolve'. As this is the end of the video and the song starts to get slow we think that the transitions work well with the changing images. As the images change one gets lighter in opacity levels and one gets darker.
