This is the first draft of our music video which has been edited using only two days worth of filming. We used different techniques during the editing process such as speeding some shots up, speeding some down, the use of typography and we have also used transitions. We were very limited with the lip syncing shots as we hadn't filmed as many as we had hoped. Therefore we used as many as we could and we put in other shots to fill up the song. We plan to film some shots of our artist singing in front of a projector screen to use for the next draft.
We decided to use typography as it is a key convention in the editing process. i think that the use of text has worked well in the places that we have put them. It is something that I think we should continue to add when editing the final music video.
Some other things that we are planning on doing for the next draft is adding more colour, more shots of lip singing, more editing techniques, quicker shots. Using quicker shots may fit with our song better as the beat is quite fast. We could make the shots quicker by cutting some down by a few shots and then adding in another shot to fill up the space.
The next thing we are going to do, before starting to edit for the next draft, is to put together a focus group (of people who come under our audience). We will ask this focus group to watch our first draft and give some feedback on what was good and what we can do to improve our next draft. The purpose of this is so we can make our music video as good as it can be to attract our target audience.
We have already decided, as a group, to do another session of filming. This session will involve our artist lip syncing in front of a projector screen and a green screen. Not only do we need to put more lip singing shots in but we also want to put more close up and extreme close up shots of our artist so we have used a wide range of shots.
The purpose for filming our artist in front of a projector screen is because we can find a background consisting of colour, shapes and images which sticks to the fun kind of theme in our video. We would also like to film in front of a green screen because we would like to see how it works so we can develop our editing skills as well as adding effect to our video. It could add effect as we could change the background to an image or colour which will, again, add to the fun theme shown in our video.
It has been fun filming and editing the music video so far. The days out for filming have been fun aswell as useful due to the fact that we got so much filming done in just two days. The editing part has been educational as I have played around with the software and have learnt some editing techniques. It has been really interesting to see for myself what kind of work goes into making a music video.
